What is HPV vaccination done with?

Short answer
HPV vaccination is done with an HPV vaccine given by injection to help the immune system prevent infection from selected HPV types.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the vaccine is for
The vaccine exposes the immune system to harmless HPV-related components so it can build protection without causing HPV infection. HPV is spread through intimate skin-to-skin contact and can cause genital warts and cell changes linked with several cancers. Vaccination works best before exposure, but eligibility and expected benefit can vary with age, previous exposure, and local guidance.
The vaccine prevents new infections; it does not clear an HPV infection already present or replace cervical screening.
Preparing for vaccination
Tell the vaccinator about a previous severe allergic reaction to a vaccine or one of its ingredients, current illness, pregnancy, and medicines that affect immunity. The schedule can depend on the age at starting and immune status, so follow the appointment plan rather than assuming one visit is enough.
Soreness, redness, tiredness, or a mild fever can follow the injection. Sit for the observation period recommended by the clinic, and drink fluids if you feel well enough.
When to seek care
Seek immediate help for difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, widespread hives, or collapse after vaccination. Contact a clinician for a fever that is persistent, worsening illness, or symptoms that concern you. Brief faintness can occur after injections, which is why observation afterward is useful.
Questions for your doctor
Ask which HPV types the vaccine covers, how many doses you need, what to do after a delayed appointment, whether you should continue cervical screening, and whether any allergy or immune condition changes the plan.

Questions people ask
Can the HPV vaccine treat an existing infection?
No. It helps prevent selected new infections, but it does not remove HPV already present or treat established cell changes.
Is cervical screening still needed after vaccination?
Yes. Vaccination does not cover every HPV type, so follow the cervical screening advice for your age and location.
