What is diagnostic laparoscopy done with?

A laparoscope is a slim viewing tube placed through a small abdominal opening. The camera sends magnified images to a monitor, allowing the surgeon to inspect the pelvis and abdomen. Carbon dioxide is commonly introduced to create working space, and additional small openings may allow instruments to be inserted. Depending on the reason for the operation, the same setup can support a biopsy or a limited procedure, but your planned use should be confirmed in advance. Unlike an internal vaginal examination, laparoscopy requires access through the abdominal wall.

Follow the hospital instructions about fasting, medicines, and washing before surgery. Tell the anaesthesia and surgical teams about medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy possibility, and medicines that affect bleeding. Plan a ride home and time to recover, because anaesthesia can affect alertness and abdominal soreness may limit activity initially. Ask which findings can be addressed during the same operation.

Call the surgical team for increasing abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, fever, wound redness, pus, or bleeding. Urgent assessment is needed for chest pain, difficulty breathing, fainting, a swollen painful leg, or severe pain that is not improving with the prescribed plan.

Ask what the camera will examine, how many openings are expected, whether tissue may be sampled, what pain relief is planned, and which symptoms should trigger a same-day call.
