What if laser hair removal does not relieve unwanted facial hair?

Laser treatment works through pigment in growing hairs, and facial hair can vary in colour, thickness, density, and growth pattern. Some hairs may be outside the active growth stage at a session. Regrowth can also be associated with hormonal changes, especially alongside irregular periods, acne, scalp thinning, or increased body hair. Fine or light hairs may respond differently from darker, thicker hairs.

Bring the treating clinician a timeline of sessions, visible regrowth, skin reactions, medicines, and hormonal changes. Ask whether the device and settings suit the facial area and whether another hair-removal approach should be considered for individual hairs. Avoid plucking or waxing if the clinic needs the hair present for assessment, and protect treated skin from irritation as instructed.

Arrange medical assessment if facial hair growth is sudden or rapidly increasing, or appears with voice deepening, severe acne, scalp hair loss, or menstrual changes. Seek prompt care for blistering, severe pain, spreading redness, or marked pigment change after a session.

Ask whether hair colour and thickness affect the expected response, whether settings should change, how to manage fine regrowth, and whether hormonal symptoms warrant evaluation.
