What if hysterectomy does not relieve heavy periods?

A hysterectomy removes the uterus, so menstrual periods should not continue afterward. Light vaginal spotting can occur while tissues heal, depending on the operation and the time since surgery. Bleeding that is persistent, becomes heavier, returns after settling, or comes with pain needs review.
