Short answer

If womb cancer is not treated, it can grow beyond the womb, cause increasing bleeding or pelvic symptoms, and spread to nearby or distant parts of the body.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why early assessment matters

Endometrial cancer begins in the lining of the womb. As it grows, it may extend into the womb muscle, cervix, nearby pelvic tissues, or lymph nodes. Further progression can affect organs outside the pelvis. Bleeding after menopause, bleeding between periods, or persistent pelvic pain can have several causes, so these symptoms do not by themselves establish cancer. Testing may include a transvaginal ultrasound and an endometrial biopsy to identify the cause and grade the abnormal cells.

What to do next

Arrange a prompt appointment with a gynaecologist or oncology team if cancer has been diagnosed or is suspected. Take a record of bleeding, pain, medicines, and previous test results. Treatment is chosen according to the tumour's features and extent; options can include surgery such as hysterectomy, radiotherapy, medicines, or a combination. Ask who will coordinate your tests and how quickly results will be available.

When to seek urgent care

Seek urgent medical help for heavy bleeding with dizziness, fainting, weakness, or breathlessness; severe or rapidly worsening pelvic pain; inability to pass urine; or new confusion. Bleeding after menopause should be assessed even when it is light or happens once.

Questions for your doctor

Ask which tests confirm the diagnosis, whether the cancer is confined to the womb, what treatment is recommended first, how treatment may affect fertility or menopause, and which symptoms should prompt an urgent call.

Questions people ask

Can womb cancer spread if it is untreated?

Yes. It may extend from the womb into nearby tissues or lymph nodes and can later reach distant organs.

Does bleeding always mean womb cancer?

No. Bleeding has many possible causes, but bleeding after menopause or unusual bleeding needs medical assessment.
