What happens if bladder cancer is not treated?

Bladder cancer does not behave in exactly the same way in every person. Some tumours remain near the inner lining, while others invade the bladder muscle or nearby tissues. Ongoing growth can cause visible or microscopic blood in urine, frequent urination, pain, or difficulty emptying the bladder. A blockage can affect the tubes carrying urine from the kidneys and may harm kidney function.

If bladder cancer is suspected or already diagnosed, contact a urology or oncology team promptly. Bring records of urine changes, previous infections, scans and medicines, including blood thinners.
