What happens after pre-employment medical?

The report may state that you are fit for the proposed role, fit with specific restrictions, or that further information is needed before a decision. The assessment is matched to the duties and hazards of the job, so a finding is not a general judgement about your health or ability to work elsewhere. The clinician should explain any relevant result and may ask for previous records, another examination, or a specialist opinion.

Keep any instructions, vaccination records, or reports you were given. Tell the clinic if your contact details or job duties change while the assessment is being completed. If the employer asks about a result, request that medical details are handled through the authorised process and ask the clinic what can be shared. Do not stop prescribed treatment to influence a workplace assessment.

A pre-employment assessment is not a substitute for diagnosis or urgent treatment. Arrange medical care promptly for chest pain, severe breathing difficulty, fainting, sudden weakness, or another acute change in your health. Contact the clinic if you develop a problem after a blood test or examination, such as increasing pain, swelling, or bleeding.

Ask what the assessment found, whether the result is final, what information may be shared, and whether any restriction affects a particular duty. Clarify who will contact you, how to provide missing records, and when you should arrange a routine review.
