You may notice that jars, keys, buttons, cooking tools, or a phone are harder to manage. A firm squeeze can bring aching around the finger joints or thumb base, while stiffness can make the hand feel slow to open after rest. Some people describe dropping items because the fingers cannot maintain a steady hold. Symptoms may be more noticeable after repeated hand use. Weak grip can also reflect nerve, tendon, or other joint problems, so the sensation alone cannot identify its cause.

Use larger handles, two hands for heavier objects, and light pacing during activities that involve repeated gripping. Gentle finger movement can help maintain comfortable motion; stop if an exercise sharply increases pain.
