What Does Vertigo Feel Like With Migraine?

The sensation may come before, during, or after head pain, and some people have vertigo without a noticeable headache. Busy patterns, bright light, screens, sounds, or moving surroundings can make symptoms harder to tolerate. Nausea, vomiting, light sensitivity, sound sensitivity, visual disturbance, and difficulty concentrating may accompany an episode. Migraine is one possible explanation; new or unusual vertigo still deserves a clinical review because several conditions can produce similar sensations.

Stop activities that require balance or quick reactions and rest in a quiet, dim room. Keep your head movements gentle, rise slowly, and ask someone to stay nearby if walking feels unsafe. Small sips of fluid may be easier than a large drink when nausea is present. Follow your personal migraine plan if you have one, and record possible triggers, timing, headache symptoms, hearing changes, and visual symptoms for your clinician.

Get urgent help for sudden severe vertigo with weakness, numbness on one side, facial drooping, trouble speaking, fainting, new double vision, a severe unusual headache, or inability to walk. Seek prompt assessment for a first or markedly different episode, persistent vomiting, new hearing loss, fever with a stiff neck, or symptoms after a head injury.

Ask whether the pattern fits migraine, whether another cause should be checked, and which treatments are appropriate when vertigo is prominent. Bring a record of episode timing, triggers, headache features, medicines taken, and how long balance problems last.
