What does vertigo feel like with labyrinthitis?

The spinning sensation may become stronger when you turn your head, stand, or look around. You may feel unsteady, veer while walking, or need to hold onto furniture. Nausea and vomiting can occur because the brain is receiving mismatched signals from the inner ear and the eyes. Labyrinthitis may also involve hearing changes or ringing in an ear. Vertigo can have several causes, so the sensation alone cannot confirm labyrinthitis.

Sit or lie down in a quiet place when the spinning begins, move your head slowly, and avoid driving, heights, or operating machinery while balance is affected. Ask someone to help you walk if needed. Keep fluids down with small sips if nausea is present. Arrange a medical assessment, particularly when vertigo is new or accompanied by hearing symptoms, so the cause and suitable treatment can be considered.

Seek emergency help for vertigo with facial weakness, trouble speaking, new limb weakness or numbness, severe headache, fainting, chest pain, or inability to walk safely. Prompt assessment is also needed for sudden hearing loss, persistent vomiting, or a rapidly worsening episode.
