What does urinary urgency feel like with prostatitis?

You may feel an intense pressure or an immediate need to find a toilet, even when your bladder has not filled much. The urge can return soon after urinating, and passing urine may be uncomfortable, slow, or interrupted. Prostatitis can also cause pain in the lower abdomen, pelvis, lower back, or area between the scrotum and anus. These symptoms can vary, and urinary urgency alone does not identify the cause.

Arrange a clinical assessment if urgency is new, persistent, or accompanied by pelvic discomfort. Note when the urge occurs, how often you pass urine, whether burning or fever is present, and whether the stream has changed. Drink normally, avoid bladder irritants such as caffeinated drinks if they worsen the sensation, and do not take leftover antibiotics. Seek urgent medical help if you cannot pass urine, develop a high fever or shaking chills, become confused or very unwell, or have severe pelvic pain.
