Swelling can develop in the neck, above the collarbone, armpit, groin, or deeper areas where it creates fullness rather than a visible lump. One node or several may be involved. Pain is not required, and tenderness can reflect infection rather than the underlying cause. A physical sensation cannot distinguish non-Hodgkin lymphoma from other explanations.

Note the location, movement, tenderness, and whether the swelling changes over time. Arrange an appointment for a lump that does not settle or continues to enlarge. The clinician may check several areas, ask about infections and general symptoms, and choose blood tests, imaging, or a biopsy based on the examination.

Seek prompt medical advice for persistent growth, a fixed lump, or swelling above the collarbone. Get urgent help if you have trouble breathing or swallowing, rapidly increasing swelling, or severe deterioration.
