What do swollen lymph nodes feel like with Hodgkin lymphoma?

Nodes can appear in the neck, above the collarbone, armpit, or groin. The swelling may be one lump or several close together. Lymph nodes can be painless, and the skin over them may look unchanged. Feeling alone cannot show whether a node is reacting to an infection, inflammation, or cancer; an examination and tests are needed.

Notice where the lump is, when you first felt it, whether it is changing, and whether you have pain, fever, night sweats, itching, or unexplained weight change. Arrange a medical visit for a new or persistent swelling. A clinician may examine other node groups and decide whether blood tests, imaging, or a biopsy is appropriate.

Seek prompt medical advice for a lump that continues to enlarge, feels firm or fixed, or sits above the collarbone. Get urgent help for trouble breathing or swallowing, rapidly worsening swelling, or severe weakness. These signs need assessment regardless of the cause.

Ask which features of the swelling matter, whether an infection could explain it, what tests may be useful, and how quickly results will be available. If Hodgkin lymphoma is being considered, ask what the next diagnostic step is and what symptoms should be reported while waiting.
