Short answer

Shoulder Weakness is a common presentation of Cervical Radiculopathy and may feel like reduced power, fatigue, or difficulty controlling the arm.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

May affect
Power, endurance, and arm control
May occur with
Neck pain, tingling, or altered sensation

How nerve-related weakness can feel

You may find that the arm tires while reaching, pushing, or carrying, or that it does not respond with its usual force. Some people notice clumsy overhead movement or an arm that briefly gives way. Neck pain may travel into the shoulder or arm, and tingling, pins and needles, or altered sensation can occur along the same nerve pathway.

Most people with Cervical Radiculopathy notice shoulder weakness, but the exact muscles affected depend on which nerve root is irritated. Shoulder weakness can also arise from a shoulder problem or another nerve issue, so the symptom alone does not identify its source.

What to do next

Avoid repeatedly testing the weak arm with heavy weights or strenuous overhead work. Keep neck and shoulder movements gentle, change position regularly, and record whether weakness is stable, improving, or spreading. Do not drive or work at height if the arm cannot be controlled safely.

Arrange a clinical assessment for strength, reflexes, sensation, and neck movement. Treatment may involve activity modification, targeted physiotherapy, and pain relief selected for your circumstances.

When to seek care

Seek prompt medical care if weakness is new, worsening, or interfering with gripping, walking, or everyday tasks. Get urgent help for weakness affecting both arms or legs, trouble with balance, loss of bladder or bowel control, severe neck pain after injury, or sudden facial or speech changes.

Questions for your doctor

Ask: Which nerve or muscle seems affected? Should I have a neurological examination or imaging? Which activities are safe while strength is reduced? What symptoms would mean the nerve problem is worsening? When should progress be reassessed?
