What do pimples feel like with perioral dermatitis?

Pimples is a common presentation of Perioral Dermatitis. The bumps often feel uneven beneath the fingertips and can be tender, itchy, tight or burning rather than soft and deep. They may cluster around the mouth while leaving a narrow strip of skin next to the lips relatively clear. Similar bumps can appear beside the nose or around the eyes. Dryness, flaking and sensitivity may occur alongside the spots, and the skin can become more uncomfortable after applying irritating products.

Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and lukewarm water, then pat dry. Keep the routine simple and avoid scrubbing, picking, heavy cosmetics and newly added skincare until the cause is clearer. Do not start steroid cream on the face unless a clinician has specifically advised it, because it can aggravate or obscure this pattern. Note where the bumps occur, when they began, and any recent changes to toothpaste, cosmetics or medicines. A dermatologist can distinguish perioral dermatitis from acne, contact irritation and other facial rashes and select suitable treatment.

Arrange an appointment if the bumps persist, spread toward the eyes, repeatedly return or interfere with sleep or daily comfort. Seek prompt care for marked swelling, eye pain, vision changes, rapidly worsening redness, pus with increasing tenderness, fever or feeling unwell.
