What does oily skin feel like with seborrheic dermatitis?

The oiliness may be most noticeable on the scalp, hairline, forehead, eyebrows, sides of the nose, ears, or central chest. Skin can look shiny while feeling slightly thick, warm, itchy, or tender. Greasy scale may cling to the skin or hair and can appear white, yellowish, or flaky. Dryness and oiliness can occur together because irritation disrupts the surface of the skin.

Oily skin is a very common presentation of Seborrheic Dermatitis. This pattern does not identify the cause by itself; similar sensations can occur with ordinary sebum production, irritation, or another skin condition.

Wash affected areas gently with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free cleanser, then pat dry. Avoid scrubbing, picking scale, or repeatedly washing to remove shine, since friction can increase irritation.
