What Does Joint Swelling Feel Like With Gout?

A gout flare can make a joint enlarge over a short time. The skin may look shiny, and the area can feel hot, tense and intensely tender; even light contact from clothing or bedding may hurt. The big toe is a familiar site, but the ankle, knee, midfoot, wrist or fingers can also be involved. Stiffness may make the joint difficult to bend or bear weight on.
