Adenomyosis involves tissue similar to the uterine lining growing into the uterine muscle. During a period, this can produce heavier flow, clots, or bleeding that lasts longer than your usual pattern. Cramping may begin before bleeding and continue through the period; some people describe deep, gripping, or throbbing pelvic pain.
