What does fever feel like with sinusitis?

Sinusitis-related fever may occur with blocked or runny nose, facial pressure around the cheeks or forehead, reduced sense of smell, tooth or upper-jaw ache and thick nasal mucus. Bending forward can make pressure feel worse. A fever suggests the body is responding to inflammation or infection, but it does not distinguish viral from bacterial sinusitis by itself. Symptoms can overlap with a common cold or migraine.

Rest, drink fluids and use a warm, clean compress over the face if it feels soothing. Saline nasal rinsing may help clear mucus when performed with properly prepared water and clean equipment. Avoid smoking and follow label directions for any pain or fever medicine. A clinician can advise whether nasal treatment or another option fits your symptoms; antibiotics are not suitable for every case.

Arrange medical advice if symptoms are severe, keep worsening, return after improving, or do not begin to settle. Seek urgent help for swelling or redness around an eye, vision changes, severe headache, stiff neck, confusion, repeated vomiting or marked facial swelling. These signs can indicate complications needing prompt treatment.
