What does elbow pain feel like with cubital tunnel syndrome?

Short answer
Most people with Cubital Tunnel Syndrome notice elbow pain as an ache or electric discomfort on the inner elbow, sometimes spreading into the forearm, ring finger, or little finger.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Common location
- Inner elbow, sometimes extending to the forearm
- Possible hand symptoms
- Tingling in the little and adjacent ring finger
How the symptoms connect
Elbow Pain is a common presentation of Cubital Tunnel Syndrome. The discomfort is often felt around the inner elbow where the ulnar nerve passes behind the bony prominence. Leaning on the elbow or keeping it bent for a long time may bring on aching, tingling, burning, or an electric shock-like feeling. Pins and needles can travel toward the little finger and the adjacent side of the ring finger. With ongoing nerve irritation, grip may feel less secure and hand movements may become clumsy. These signs can overlap with other nerve, tendon, joint, or neck problems, so the location alone cannot identify the cause.
Reducing irritation
Avoid resting the inner elbow on hard surfaces and change positions during phone use, sleep, desk work, or driving. Keep the arm in a comfortable, less tightly bent position when possible. A clinician can check sensation, strength, neck movement, and the nerve pathway, then advise on activity changes, splinting, exercises, or further testing. Do not repeatedly provoke tingling to test the nerve, and protect the hand if sensation is reduced.
When to seek care
Arrange an assessment if pain or tingling keeps returning, wakes you, affects grip, or causes dropping objects. Seek prompt care for worsening hand weakness, visible muscle wasting, persistent numbness, severe pain after injury, or a cold, pale, or blue hand. Sudden arm weakness with facial drooping, speech trouble, or chest symptoms is an emergency.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether the ulnar nerve is irritated at the elbow or elsewhere, what positions to avoid, and whether night support or nerve testing is appropriate. Discuss how to protect grip and when persistent weakness would change the treatment plan.

Questions people ask
Why can bending the elbow worsen symptoms?
A bent elbow can increase pressure or stretch around the ulnar nerve, especially when held that way for a long time.
Does cubital tunnel syndrome affect the hand as well as the elbow?
Yes. Nerve irritation may cause tingling, numbness, grip changes, or clumsiness in the ulnar-sided fingers.
