What does dizziness feel like with Meniere's disease?

An episode can create a false sense that you or the room is moving. You may need to sit or hold onto something because walking feels unsafe. Nausea, vomiting, ear pressure, ringing, or reduced hearing in one ear can occur alongside the balance disturbance. Symptoms may come in attacks rather than staying at the same intensity all day. Dizziness alone cannot identify its cause, because inner-ear, neurological, circulation, medication, and other problems can feel similar.

Sit or lie down in a quiet place and keep your head as still as is comfortable. Avoid driving, climbing, bathing alone, or other activities where a sudden loss of balance could cause injury. When the sensation eases, rise slowly and use support. Arrange a clinical assessment if episodes recur, hearing changes, or ear symptoms accompany the dizziness; a clinician may check your ears, hearing, balance, medicines, and general health.

Seek urgent medical help for sudden severe dizziness with facial drooping, new weakness or numbness, trouble speaking, fainting, severe headache, chest pain, or difficulty walking that does not settle. Prompt assessment is also needed for sudden hearing loss, a head injury, persistent vomiting, or a high fever with severe illness.

Ask whether the pattern fits an inner-ear disorder, which symptoms should be recorded during an attack, and whether hearing or balance testing is appropriate. Tell the clinician when episodes start, how long they last, what you were doing, and whether ringing, pressure, or hearing change appears with them.
