What does cough feel like with common cold?

A cold cough can feel like a tickle or irritation in the throat, leading to repeated clearing or short bursts of coughing. Later, mucus from the nose or throat may make it sound phlegmy. Lying down can make post-nasal drainage more noticeable, so coughing may disturb sleep. A sore throat, sneezing, blocked or runny nose, and mild aches often appear with the cough. The airways can stay sensitive after the other cold symptoms improve, so an occasional cough may linger.
