What does buttock pain feel like with gluteal tendinopathy?

Short answer
Buttock Pain is a common presentation of Gluteal Tendinopathy, often felt as a deep ache on the outer buttock that worsens with loading or lying on that side.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How it can feel
The discomfort may sit near the bony side of the hip or spread across the upper outer buttock. It can feel sore, burning, or sharp when you climb stairs, walk uphill, stand on one leg, or rise from a chair. A tender spot may hurt when pressed. Turning in bed or sleeping on the painful side can increase symptoms because the tendon is compressed. Pain may ease after changing position, but repeated loading can bring it back.
Gluteal tendinopathy affects the tendons that connect the buttock muscles to the hip. Buttock pain alone has several possible causes, so the sensation cannot confirm the diagnosis.
What may help
Temporarily reduce activities that sharply increase pain, while keeping gentle movement within a tolerable range. Avoid sitting with the knees crossed and consider a pillow between your knees when side-sleeping. A physiotherapist can assess hip strength, walking habits, and movement patterns, then build a gradual strengthening plan. Do not increase exercise suddenly just because symptoms are quiet for a day.
When to seek care
Arrange an assessment if pain persists, limits sleep or walking, or keeps returning after activity changes. Seek urgent medical help for sudden severe pain after an injury, inability to bear weight, a hot swollen area with fever, or new leg weakness or loss of bladder or bowel control.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether the pain location and movement pattern fit gluteal tendinopathy, which activities should be modified, and how quickly strengthening should progress. You can also ask what other hip, back, or nerve-related causes need consideration.

Questions people ask
Can gluteal tendinopathy hurt when sitting?
It can, especially when sitting with the legs crossed or on a firm surface that presses the outer hip.
Is buttock pain enough to diagnose gluteal tendinopathy?
No. A clinician considers the pain location, triggers, strength, movement, and other possible causes.
