What Does Body Odour Feel Like With Erythrasma?

Erythrasma is a superficial bacterial infection that commonly affects warm, moist areas such as the groin, underarms and spaces between toes. The patch may be flat, well defined and slightly scaly, with itching or burning that ranges from mild to absent. Odour can develop as moisture and bacteria collect in the fold.

The appearance can overlap with fungal infection, eczema or friction-related irritation. A clinician may examine the scale and use a special light or other bedside assessment to help distinguish causes.

Keep the affected fold clean and thoroughly dry, change damp clothing promptly, and avoid sharing towels. Use only treatments recommended for the diagnosis; an antifungal product will not address every cause of a fold rash. Loose, breathable clothing can reduce rubbing while you arrange an assessment.

Book a medical review if a fold rash persists, spreads, repeatedly returns or has a new odour. Seek prompt care for increasing pain, warmth, pus, fever, rapidly spreading redness or skin breakdown, particularly if you have a condition that affects healing.
