What Does Body Odour Feel Like With Bromhidrosis?

Bromhidrosis is an odour problem rather than a sensation on the skin. Sweat itself may have little smell, but bacteria can break down substances in sweat and produce a sharp, sour, musty or onion-like odour. It is often strongest in the underarms, groin, feet or skin folds, and may return soon after washing or sweating.

Some people also notice dampness, chafing or irritation in the same areas. Odour can be influenced by clothing, heat, stress, hair and skin conditions, so a clinician may ask when it started and where it occurs.

Wash and dry skin folds carefully, change out of damp clothing, and choose breathable fabrics. An antiperspirant may reduce moisture, while a clinician can recommend a suitable antibacterial or prescription treatment when routine measures are not enough. Avoid harsh scrubbing, which can worsen irritation.
