What Does a Bleeding Mole Feel Like With Melanoma?

A mole that bleeds after minor rubbing can have a surface injury, but bleeding without a clear trigger deserves attention. Melanoma may change in colour, size, shape or surface, and the area can become scaly, crusted, moist or painful. Some concerning lesions cause no sensation at all, so a lack of discomfort does not settle the question.

A clinician may inspect the spot with magnification and compare it with nearby moles. Examination is needed because irritation, benign growths and skin cancers can look similar.

Wash the area gently, apply light pressure with clean gauze if it is bleeding, and avoid picking or shaving over it.
