What are the treatment options for bladder cancer?

Cystoscopy examines the bladder and helps the team assess or remove visible abnormal tissue. Intravesical BCG Therapy places medicine into the bladder and is used for selected cancers that have not grown deeply into the bladder wall. Bladder Removal Surgery may be discussed when disease is deeper or more extensive. Chemotherapy can treat cancer throughout the body or be placed in a treatment plan around surgery. Immunotherapy helps the immune system recognise cancer cells and may be considered in particular situations.

Ask whether the cancer is non-muscle-invasive or muscle-invasive, and whether the first step is Cystoscopy, a bladder-directed treatment or surgery. Seek urgent help if you cannot pass urine, have heavy bleeding or clots in the urine, fever with chills, severe side or abdominal pain, or feel faint. During treatment, report worsening burning, fever or reduced urine promptly because infection or blockage may need rapid care.
