What are the treatment options for allergic rhinitis?

Allergic rhinitis is inflammation inside the nose after contact with an allergen. Sneezing, an itchy or blocked nose, a runny nose and post-nasal drip are common features; some people also have itchy, watery eyes. Symptoms can be seasonal or present throughout the year.

Allergy testing may help identify an avoidable trigger when the cause is unclear or symptoms remain troublesome.

Seek a review if blocked breathing through the nose, poor sleep, reduced smell or recurrent symptoms interfere with daily life. Get urgent help for facial swelling with breathing difficulty, severe headache with fever, or sudden vision changes.
