What are the symptoms of gastritis?

The discomfort is often felt in the upper middle abdomen and may come with fullness after eating. Some people notice nausea, vomiting, frequent burping, hiccups or less interest in food. Symptoms can be mild, intermittent or more persistent. Some people with gastritis have few or no noticeable symptoms, so symptoms alone cannot confirm the cause. Similar discomfort can occur with indigestion or other stomach conditions.

Record when the discomfort starts, what you have eaten, and any medicines or supplements taken around that time. Avoid alcohol and foods that clearly trigger burning or nausea, and choose small, gentle meals while symptoms settle. Do not stop a prescribed medicine without advice, even if you suspect it is irritating your stomach. Arrange medical advice if symptoms keep returning, interfere with eating, or do not improve.
