What Are the First Signs of Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory condition in which the immune system targets the lining of joints. Early symptoms may include warm or puffy knuckles, finger stiffness, wrist discomfort, or aching in the feet. Gentle movement and pacing can preserve comfort; a clinician may discuss anti-inflammatory medication, physiotherapy, or hand therapy depending on the findings.

Seek prompt care for a joint that becomes suddenly very hot, red, and painful, especially with fever. Arrange an earlier review if swelling is rapidly increasing, several joints are becoming affected, or hand function is changing. New weakness, severe pain, or inability to use a limb also needs timely assessment.
