What are the alternatives to a tubal dye test?

A tubal dye test uses contrast and imaging to show whether dye passes through the tubes and to assess the shape of the uterine cavity. HyCoSy uses ultrasound with fluid or contrast instead of an X-ray-based image. The choice may depend on local expertise, allergies, previous pelvic surgery and what your clinician needs to see. A scan cannot answer every fertility question, and an apparently open tube does not by itself explain all causes of delayed conception.

Discuss whether the aim is checking blocked fallopian tubes, investigating female infertility, or planning treatment. Tell the clinic about pregnancy possibility, pelvic infection history, allergies and previous results. If the tubes are blocked or fertility factors are significant, the team may discuss assisted treatment rather than another test. IUI is considered only when the clinical circumstances make it suitable.

Arrange assessment if you have been trying to conceive without success or have a history that may affect the tubes. After any tubal procedure, seek prompt help for fever, increasing pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, faintness or unusual discharge. Severe pain, collapse or difficulty breathing needs emergency care.
