Its chamber and marker provide feedback as you breathe in, helping you practise a fuller breath when discomfort or tiredness has led to shallow breathing. The reading should be interpreted in the context of your care plan; it is not a stand-alone diagnosis.

Choose a stable seated position and relax your shoulders. Keep the device upright, place the mouthpiece between your lips, and inhale gradually so the marker rises smoothly. Follow any breath-holding instruction from your clinician, then remove the mouthpiece and exhale gently. Coughing afterwards may be recommended in some recovery plans. Use only as directed, and ask for help if pain or weakness makes the technique difficult.
