Vitamin D and heart-related concerns

Vitamin D has recognised roles in bone and muscle health, but a vitamin D result cannot diagnose the cause of a headache, chest discomfort, palpitations or breathlessness. Headache can occur with dehydration, viral illness, sinus problems, heat exposure, anxiety and other conditions. These possibilities can overlap, so the timing, severity, associated symptoms and medical history matter more than assuming vitamin D is responsible. Do not delay urgent assessment while trying a supplement.

For a recurring or unexplained headache, arrange a clinical review and record when it starts, where it hurts, how long it lasts and what accompanies it. Drink fluids regularly, rest from heat and avoid taking supplements beyond advised amounts. If you have a known vitamin D deficiency, follow the treatment plan separately from any evaluation of heart or neurological symptoms. Mention medicines, recent illness and pregnancy when relevant.

Call emergency services for chest pressure, severe breathlessness, fainting, new weakness on one side, trouble speaking, or a sudden severe headache. Seek prompt care for fever with a stiff neck, persistent vomiting, confusion, or a headache after a head injury. Heat exhaustion and dehydration can also require urgent treatment when dizziness, weakness or reduced alertness worsens.
