Very Itchy Flaky Scalp: What You Should Know

Dandruff and Seborrheic Dermatitis can produce flakes with itch, often around oily scalp areas. Scalp Psoriasis may cause thicker, sharply defined scale that reaches beyond the hairline. Scalp Ringworm may cause scaling, broken hairs or patchy hair loss and can spread between people or through shared items. Dryness, product irritation and scratching can add to the visible scale. Symptoms overlap, so the scalp pattern and hair changes are more informative than itch intensity alone.

Wash with lukewarm water, use fingertips gently and rinse products thoroughly. Avoid scratching with nails, picking plaques, tight headwear and fragranced oils placed on irritated skin.
