What should you know about valsartan angioedema?

Angioedema develops beneath the surface of the skin or lining of the mouth and airway. After starting valsartan, changing the dose, or taking it alongside other medicines, new swelling deserves attention even if there is no rash. Swelling may feel tight, warm, or uncomfortable rather than itchy. Hives can occur at the same time, but they are not required. Stop and assess the situation rather than taking another dose until a clinician or pharmacist has advised you. Keep the medicine pack and a list of every prescription, over-the-counter medicine, and supplement available. Do not restart valsartan on your own after a suspected reaction; the prescriber can decide whether another blood-pressure treatment is appropriate. Treatment depends on the pattern and severity.
