What should you know about underarm pimples that hurt?

Pain can occur when a follicle is irritated by shaving, sweat, deodorant, or rubbing. A deeper tender lump may contain pus and can become a boil. Clusters that return, drain, or leave scars need a clinician’s assessment for an ongoing inflammatory disorder. Pain alone cannot identify the cause, and an underarm pimple does not by itself mean acne.

Clean the area gently and keep it dry. Use a warm compress with clean fabric for comfort, avoid shaving over the bump, and wear loose clothing. Do not pierce or squeeze it.
