What should you know about types of RF microneedling?

During treatment, small needles enter the skin and deliver radiofrequency energy at a chosen depth. Some systems deliver energy through insulated needles so heat is concentrated near the tips; others distribute energy differently through the treated layer. Devices may also use different needle counts, depths and pulse patterns.

These differences affect which areas can be treated and how much swelling, redness or downtime may follow. RF microneedling is distinct from ordinary microneedling because it adds controlled heat, while ordinary microneedling relies on needle injury without radiofrequency energy.

Ask for an assessment of your skin concern, active acne or infection, tendency to form raised scars, recent tanning and any medicines that affect healing. The clinician should explain the device, depth, energy level, numbing plan and expected recovery before starting. Do not treat over an active rash or open wound.

After a session, use gentle cleansing and the recommended moisturiser and sunscreen. Avoid picking, intense heat, swimming and irritating active ingredients until the skin barrier has settled. Results develop gradually as the treated skin remodels, and the schedule depends on the indication and response.

Contact the clinic promptly if pain, warmth, swelling or redness keeps intensifying, or if you notice pus, fever, spreading rash, extensive blistering or delayed healing. Seek urgent care for breathing difficulty or swelling of the lips and face after a topical product or anaesthetic. Report persistent darkening or lightening so it can be reviewed.
