The classification is used mainly in cancer surgery and can describe removal of the uterus and cervix with nearby tissue, while the ovaries and lymph nodes depend on the individual plan. The route may be abdominal, laparoscopic, or vaginal; that describes access, not extent. Surgery may be discussed for cervical cancer and selected womb conditions, while heavy periods or pelvic pain need assessment of their cause.

Ask the surgeon which organs and tissues will be removed, why this extent is recommended, and whether lymph-node assessment is planned. Discuss fertility, menopause, sexual wellbeing, bladder or bowel effects, pain relief, wound care, and expected recovery before consenting. Adenomyosis, endometriosis, fibroids, or endometrial hyperplasia may require different approaches, so the diagnosis matters.

After surgery, contact your team for increasing pain, fever, heavy vaginal bleeding, wound redness or discharge, difficulty passing urine, persistent vomiting, or leg swelling. Seek emergency help for severe breathlessness, chest pain, collapse, or sudden one-sided weakness. Follow discharge instructions because warning signs can vary with the surgical route.
