Type 2 diabetes mellitus symptoms

When glucose stays high, the kidneys remove more water, which can cause thirst and frequent urination. Some people feel unusually tired, notice blurred vision, lose weight without trying, or experience recurrent infections. Cuts may heal slowly. Tingling, burning, or reduced feeling in the feet can point to nerve involvement. These symptoms have other possible causes, so they do not confirm diabetes; a blood test and clinical assessment are needed.

Arrange a medical assessment if symptoms are new, persistent, or occurring together. Bring a list of medicines and note thirst, urination, weight change, vision changes, infections, or foot symptoms. Do not rely on a home glucose reading alone to diagnose the condition. While waiting, drink to thirst unless a clinician has given you a fluid restriction, and inspect any foot injury rather than walking on unnoticed damage.

Seek urgent care for vomiting, severe dehydration, marked drowsiness, confusion, difficulty breathing, or inability to keep fluids down. Sudden weakness, facial drooping, trouble speaking, or sudden vision loss needs emergency help. A red, hot, swollen wound or spreading redness also needs prompt assessment because diabetes can make skin infections more serious.
