What to Know About a TruMedic TENS Unit

TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. The device sends controlled pulses through adhesive pads placed on intact skin. The sensation may feel like tingling or tapping; it should not feel sharply painful or like a burn. It may alter how pain signals are processed and can make movement or rehabilitation more comfortable, but it does not repair a torn structure or treat every cause of pain.

Follow the device instructions and begin with a comfortable setting. Place pads only where recommended, keep them away from broken or irritated skin, and check the skin after use. Do not use stimulation while driving, bathing, sleeping, or operating machinery. Ask a clinician before use if you have an implanted electronic device, reduced sensation, a seizure disorder, are pregnant, or are unsure where pads belong. Stop using the unit and seek advice if it causes a burn, persistent redness, swelling, dizziness, unusual palpitations, or worsening pain. Get prompt medical care for new weakness, loss of sensation, chest pain, breathing difficulty, or pain after a serious injury. Do not use TENS to delay assessment of unexplained or rapidly worsening symptoms.
