Treatment for Metastatic Melanoma

Metastatic melanoma is melanoma that has spread from the original skin site to another part of the body. The care plan depends on where it has spread, how much disease is present, symptoms, previous therapies, and test results. Imaging, tissue review, and sometimes molecular testing help the team choose a treatment pathway. A discussion with medical oncology and other specialists puts these findings into context.

Keep appointments with the oncology team and bring a complete list of medicines, allergies, symptoms, and prior procedures. Immunotherapy helps the immune system recognise and attack cancer but can inflame normal organs, so new diarrhoea, cough, rash, fatigue, or yellowing of the skin should be reported promptly. Surgery may remove a treatable deposit or the original tumour in selected circumstances. Follow-up imaging and examinations check response and detect change. Ask who to contact outside clinic hours.

Contact the cancer team urgently for breathing difficulty, chest pain, severe weakness, confusion, a new seizure, persistent vomiting, severe headache, or sudden change in vision or movement. These symptoms need prompt assessment, particularly when spread to the brain is possible.
