Tiredness and loss of appetite: what should you know?

Short answer
Tiredness with loss of appetite can have many causes, so ongoing or worsening symptoms deserve medical review.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the combination can mean
Viral illnesses such as Influenza or COVID-19 can reduce appetite while making you feel drained. Gastroenteritis may cause nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea; Gastritis and Peptic Ulcer can cause upper-abdominal discomfort, nausea or early fullness. Depression can affect appetite, sleep and motivation. Hepatitis A may include nausea, tiredness and changes in urine or skin colour. Pancreatic Cancer is an uncommon but serious cause of persistent appetite change with other concerning symptoms. These conditions present with appetite loss in different patterns, and the symptom does not identify a diagnosis by itself.
What you can do now
Sip fluids regularly and choose small, nourishing meals or snacks rather than forcing a large meal. Bland foods may be easier during nausea. Record your appetite, energy, temperature, bowel symptoms, pain and any weight change. Review recent medicines, alcohol intake and sick contacts with a clinician. Avoid self-treating persistent abdominal pain with repeated medicines without advice, particularly if you have a history of ulcers.
When to seek care
Arrange a medical appointment if reduced appetite lasts, interferes with eating or drinking, or occurs with ongoing tiredness, abdominal pain or unplanned weight loss. Seek urgent care for severe or worsening pain, repeated vomiting, confusion, fainting, black or bloody stools, vomiting blood, yellow skin or eyes, or signs of dehydration such as very little urine.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your symptoms fit an infection, digestive condition or mood-related change. Share when the appetite change began, what you can keep down, bowel changes, pain location, fever, alcohol use and current medicines. Ask whether blood tests, hydration support or a review for Gastritis, Peptic Ulcer or another cause is appropriate.

Questions people ask
How can I eat when I have no appetite?
Try small portions of familiar foods and regular sips of fluid; seek advice if intake remains poor or nausea and vomiting prevent hydration.
Does tiredness with poor appetite always mean an infection?
No. Infections are one possibility, alongside digestive illness, medication effects, mood changes and other conditions; the duration and accompanying symptoms guide assessment.
