A diode laser produces a focused wavelength of light that can be absorbed by pigment in hair follicles. In hair reduction, the absorbed energy heats the follicle while the surrounding skin is protected as much as possible. A device described as blue should not be judged by colour alone; wavelength, fluence, pulse design and cooling affect the treatment.
