What should you know about testosterone liposomal gel?

Liposomal refers to the way a formulation carries an active ingredient using lipid-based particles. It does not mean the gel is suitable for every person, that absorption is predictable for everyone, or that monitoring can be skipped. The label should identify the product and explain its application requirements.

As with other testosterone gels, absorbed hormone can produce acne, extra facial or body hair, scalp hair thinning, voice deepening, altered bleeding or mood changes. Wet or recently applied gel may transfer through skin contact.

Ask a qualified clinician or pharmacist to confirm the product, ingredients, strength, storage instructions and intended application site. Use only the prescribed amount on clean, dry, intact skin. Let it dry, wash your hands and cover the site as directed. Do not assume that instructions for another testosterone gel apply to a liposomal product.

Keep the container and label. Do not share the gel, apply it to irritated skin, or alter the amount because symptoms have not changed quickly. Discuss pregnancy possibility, breastfeeding, other hormones and medical conditions before use.

Contact your clinician promptly for a deepening voice, rapid new hair growth, severe acne, scalp hair loss, unexpected bleeding or marked mood changes. Seek urgent help for breathing problems, facial swelling, collapse or a severe allergic reaction.

If the gel contacts another person, wash the exposed skin and seek healthcare advice, especially when the exposed person is a child or pregnant. Bring the product packaging if possible.
