What should you know about tattoo hair transplant?

Short answer
Tattoo hair transplant usually describes confusion between scalp micropigmentation and hair transplantation: pigment imitates stubble, while transplant surgery moves living follicles.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Scalp micropigmentation
- Uses pigment to imitate hair stubble
- Hair transplant
- Moves follicles into selected areas
Two different treatments
Scalp micropigmentation places tiny pigment impressions in the scalp to create contrast and the appearance of closely cropped hair. A hair transplant takes follicles from a donor area and places them into selected thinning or balding areas; the transferred follicles can then grow hair. Neither approach should be chosen before the pattern and cause of loss are understood. Male Pattern Hair Loss, Female Pattern Hair Loss, and Traction Alopecia can require different planning.
How to plan
Ask for a diagnosis, a donor-area assessment, and a realistic discussion of whether loss is stable. Review the expected hairline, graft placement, recovery instructions, and possible future thinning. If your concern is a receding hairline or Bald Patches, describe when it began and whether it changes. PRP For Hair Loss or Scalp Micropigmentation may be discussed as separate options, not as forms of transplantation.
When to seek care
Arrange medical review for sudden loss, active scalp disease, painful areas, or bald patches that appear quickly. After transplant surgery, report worsening pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, or significant swelling. After pigment treatment, seek advice for a spreading reaction or drainage. Prompt assessment can distinguish healing concerns from infection or an untreated scalp condition.
Questions for your doctor
Ask which treatment is being proposed, what it can and cannot change, whether your donor supply is suitable, how future loss may affect the result, and what symptoms should trigger urgent contact.

Questions people ask
Does a hair tattoo grow hair?
No. It changes the scalp’s visual contrast but does not create or move follicles.
Can scalp micropigmentation and transplant be combined?
They may be considered separately or together in selected plans, depending on diagnosis, hair length, and goals.
