Symptoms of a pulled groin muscle in men

Short answer
A pulled groin muscle in a man usually causes inner-thigh or groin pain, tenderness, and difficulty with running, kicking, or squeezing the legs together.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Often painful with
- Running, kicking, stairs, or drawing the legs together
- Sport caution
- Strength and movement should return before full-speed play
How the injury presents
The adductor muscles on the inner thigh help bring the leg toward the body and stabilise the pelvis. A sudden acceleration, tackle, kick, split-step, or awkward landing can overload them. Symptoms may include a sharp pain at the moment of injury, aching afterward, bruising, swelling, weakness, or pain when climbing stairs or getting out of a car. Some groin pain comes from the hip, abdominal wall, hernia, or the testicle rather than muscle.
The injury severity cannot be judged reliably from pain alone. An examination can check strength, hip movement, bruising, and areas that need further investigation.
What to do
Stop sprinting, kicking, and other movements that reproduce the pain. Walk within a comfortable limit and use a wrapped cold pack for short periods if it helps. Do not return to sport simply because bruising has faded. Exercise therapy can rebuild strength progressively, while sports physiotherapy can assess movement and plan a safe return.
When to seek care
Arrange an assessment after a pop, substantial bruising, visible swelling, pronounced weakness, or difficulty walking. Get urgent help for severe testicular pain or swelling, a painful groin lump, vomiting, abdominal pain, or inability to pass urine. Persistent pain despite reducing activity also needs review.
Questions for your doctor
Is this an adductor injury or another source of groin pain? What level of activity is safe? When should strengthening begin? What tests are needed before I return to sport?
