Symptoms of Premenstrual Syndrome PMS

Short answer
Premenstrual syndrome can cause repeating physical and emotional symptoms before a period that improve when bleeding starts or soon afterwards.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Common PMS symptoms
Symptoms may include breast tenderness, bloating, cramps, headache, tiredness, appetite changes, acne, irritability, sadness, anxiety, tearfulness, or difficulty concentrating. The useful clue is timing: symptoms recur in the days before a period and ease during or after it. Breast pain can be part of PMS, but new, persistent, or one-sided breast changes need separate assessment.
PMS is different from symptoms that remain throughout the cycle or severely disrupt work, relationships, or self-care. A clinician can consider other explanations when the pattern is unclear.
Ways to prepare
Track symptoms and cycle dates for several cycles, noting severity and their effect on sleep, work, and relationships. Regular meals, movement, adequate sleep, and reducing alcohol may help some people. Use only medicines that are suitable for you, especially if pregnant or managing another condition. If symptoms are troublesome, discuss options such as hormonal treatment or other targeted care with a clinician.
When to seek care
Arrange a review if symptoms are new, steadily worsening, continue after the period, or interfere with ordinary activities. Seek urgent help for thoughts of self-harm, inability to stay safe, severe pain, or a breast lump with skin or nipple changes. A clinician can distinguish PMS from a condition needing different care.
Questions for your doctor
Does my symptom pattern fit PMS? How should I track it? Could another condition be contributing? Would a combined pill be suitable for me, and what risks should we discuss?

Questions people ask
Is breast pain always PMS?
No. Breast pain can have several causes, so persistent or unusual changes deserve assessment.
When should PMS be reviewed?
Seek review when symptoms disrupt daily life, worsen, or do not follow a repeating cycle.
