Symptoms of chickenpox in adults

The rash can begin as small red or pink spots, then develop into itchy blisters before crusting. New spots may appear while older areas are drying, so the skin can show several stages at once. Lesions may occur on the face, chest, back, scalp, and other areas. Chickenpox is caused by varicella, and a similar-looking blistering rash can have another cause, including Shingles. A clinician can help distinguish them from the distribution, symptoms, and examination.

Contact a GP promptly for advice, particularly because chickenpox can be more troublesome in adults and some people may need Antiviral Treatment. Avoid scratching, keep fingernails short, wear loose clothing, and use gentle skin care. An oral Antihistamine Treatment may be suggested for itch, but check suitability before taking medicine.
