What should you know about surgery for loose skin on arms?

Upper-arm laxity may follow weight change, ageing, or reduced skin elasticity. An arm lift removes selected loose skin and reshapes the contour; it does not treat every cause of fullness. Incision length depends on the tissue present. Sun-damaged skin, smoking, medicines, and changing weight can affect planning and healing.

Have an in-person assessment with the arm at rest and during movement. Discuss incision placement, scar care, anaesthesia, support garments, activity limits, and when exercise can resume. For milder laxity, a clinician may discuss radiofrequency skin tightening, HIFU skin lifting, or a thread lift. These approaches may tighten tissue but do not remove a large skin fold.

Contact the treating team for increasing redness, warmth, swelling, drainage, wound separation, fever, severe pain, or a suddenly swollen arm. Seek urgent help for chest pain, breathing difficulty, or fainting. Unexplained rapidly changing swelling should be examined before elective contouring.

Ask where the scar will sit, how much skin can be removed, which alternatives fit your laxity, how scars are managed, and which activities must pause during healing.
