Sunburn Marks on the Face

After a facial sunburn, red or darker-looking areas may remain while inflammation settles and the outer skin renews. Dryness and [Peeling Skin](/symptoms/skin-peeling/) can make colour look uneven. A mark that is flat and gradually changing differs from a new or changing mole, a non-healing sore, or a persistently rough patch. Protect the face from further sun with shade, a hat, and a broad-spectrum sunscreen once the skin can tolerate it. Use a gentle cleanser and a bland, fragrance-free emollient; avoid scrubs, peels, retinoids, bleaching products, and fragranced cosmetics on tender or peeling skin. Do not pick flakes or try to remove colour aggressively. Wait until the skin barrier feels settled before discussing pigment-focused treatment with a dermatologist. Photograph a changing spot in consistent lighting so you can describe its evolution accurately.

Arrange a dermatology review if a mark keeps changing, bleeds, crusts, itches persistently, becomes painful, or does not heal. Seek prompt advice for facial blistering, marked swelling, eye symptoms, fever, pus, or redness spreading quickly. A clinician can separate post-sun inflammation from a mole or another skin condition; do not use a strong steroid or bleaching cream without guidance.
